CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 2009 The Northern Counties Shetland Sheepdog Club held their 49th Championship Show at the Nissan Sports and Social club, Washington County Durham on the Sunday 5th April 2009. The Club has held three shows here over recent years and it has been found to be a very satisfactory venue with regard to size, with plenty of room to accommodate two full size rings with plenty of space left over for spectators and cages. However on this occasion there were numerous complaints from exhibitors about the lighting. Due to some kind of fault some of the powerful roof lights were switching themselves on and off at unpredictable intervals. This meant that parts of the hall were at times well lit but at others rather poorly lit. This obviously caused problems for the Judges and some of the dogs were also affected. Today seemed to be a day of celebration. Firstly the NCSSC is this year celebrating its 50th anniversary. To mark this important occasion there was a celebration cake (there is a picture on the pics page) and a glass of wine for the exhibitors . In addition Mrs Anne Stafford was celebrating making up her ( now Champion) Buggsy Malone. This dog was very much a family affair as it was bred by Clare, but owned by Anne. Consequently they had put on a very generous table of refreshments for the exhibitors to celebrate Our judges today were Mrs Joan Russell (Tuffeigha) who judged the Dog classes and Mr Albert Wight (Sharval) who judged the Bitch Classes. Mrs Russell had stepped in at the last minute to judge the dog classes when Mrs J. Miles the original judge was unable to keep the appointment. Mrs Russell had 76 dogs to examine and out of these she chose as her C.C. Winner Mr and Mrs Crossley's Sheleena Seabiscuit. This was quite an emotional event for Mrs Crossley as it was Seabiscuit's third C.C. Mrs Russell's choice for Reserve C.C. was Mr and Mrs Perry's Rannerdale Pick a Pocket. The Best Puppy Dog was Mr and Mrs S. Smith's Orean Top Gun Mr Wight had a good entry of 114 bitches to examine. Out of these he selected as his C.C. winner Mrs P. East's Ch Jacquard Call My Bluff J.W, and as his Reserve C.C. Miss C. Stafford's Rannerdale Lady Millicent. Mr Wight's choice for the Best Puppy Bitch was Mrs D. Rowan's Richmause Lace in Gold for Rowan Crest. On this occasion the judges, after due consultation and examination of each others choices, were unanimous in deciding on the various main awards. These were: BEST IN SHOW JACQUARD CALL MY BLUFF J.W. BEST OPPOSITE SEX AND RESERVE BEST IN SHOW SHELEENA SEABISCUIT BEST PUPPY OREAN TOP GUN BEST VETERAN CH KATIEDALE SUGAR N SPICE
